Hello friends it’s Tim here from Mario Mayhem and today we are flying into the wonderful world of Looney Tunes with the 1991 NES classic Tiny Toon Adventures!
Developed by Konami, This game allows you to control Buster Bunny and his friends in a journey to rescue Barbara Anne, better known as “Babs” Bunny, from her kidnapper Montana Max, or simply Monty as he is more commonly known. It’s a classic story line for a video game, especially from this era, and the game still looks and plays quite well even to this day! On top of this it was actually the first ever Tiny Toons game ever made, which is pretty cool!
I do remember hiring this game from the Video store back in the day, which shows my age I guess, but the game itself also received pretty good reviews from the big players at the time! GamePro gave it 17/25, Nintendo Power gave it 15.1/20 and even the British magazine Nforce gave it a 89% score.
So now that we have established it as a pretty good NES platformer, let’s see what damage we can do to this classic using the Game Genie by trying out a few of the more interesting codes! On with the show!
Starting off we will check out the game genie code EYKEGPEI which makes your character invincible! It’s a staple of the game genie realm but that doesn’t make it any less awesome in this game! You can just cruise through enemies like you are on another plane to them or something, but you can still jump on them! This all went pretty well until I found myself in the third level and I fell down a pit. Suddenly Buster just kept flying through the screen from top to bottom without lading on the ground again! I could still move him left and right in between his endless falling but I wasn’t able to progress on with the game at all. So in short, it’s a sweet code but make sure you don’t fall down any pits or the game will essentially lock on you.

Next up we have another classic game genie effect, enter in the code AASPPVPZ you get the classic jump in midair code! No longer are you bound by the earths gravitational pull as you can repeatedly hit the jump button and continue your trajectory upwards into the abyss! I had to check out if there was a warp pipe in the third level, but it turns out they only stole the Super Mario style bricks and not the short cuts. Also this didn’t help me too much with the first boss battle, but it is a pretty sweet code to check out for sure.
VASGOYSA + XZXKNNOZ + IAUGEYPA Start on level 2
VASGOYSA + XZXKNNOZ + ZAUGEYPE Start on level 3
VASGOYSA + XZXKNNOZ + YAUGEYPE Start on level 4
VASGOYSA + XZXKNNOZ + GPUGEYPA Start on level 5
There are 4 game genie level select codes for this game, but you can actually do a level select code without the use of the peripheral masterpiece we all know and love! When the title screen starts, simply press A, A, A, B, B, B, Select, Select, Select, and then A & Start at the same time! Now you can easily select which stage you want to start on! Being the pro gamer I am I went straight for level 24 which is the final stage and I got smashed pretty quickly, then to add insult to injury it sent me back to the start of the game!
I was also pretty surprised to see Donkey Kong in this game, who seemed to throw his mini kong at me or something, but at least after I died I still started in the same region as the boss! So that is something! I always like when the developers add in a little level select cheat code! For one thing it is a nice kind of easter egg to find out about from a gaming magazine or a friend and then the practical side of things for a NES game without save points is so handy! I don’t think id even have got a glimpse of Duck Vader without this handy code!
The code SEOEYXKX is kind of similar to the first code we looked at! Here you will still be invincible but you will still be able to get hit by enemies. It’s a subtle difference but at least with this code you still feel like you are in the game rather than being on some different plane of existence to the enemies in the game. For some reason I still copped it from the love sick chick but it’s still a pretty handy code!
If you just want to check out the end of the game without fighting your way through this carrot filled nightmare, you can check out the code AOOKSYAA and start a new game! Now it will show you the ending cut scene and all the cool peeps that worked on this tiny toons adventure. I kind of thought there would be more people to be honest, but I guess budget cuts etc do play a role. Also once you hit “The End” screen you literally have to reset your console, it would have been nice to see a version B game or something!
What would a NES game be without those annoying walls and closed off passages? Well if you enter in the 3 line game genie code NYEAUPIO + AIUENIEP + AAUAUSIA you won’t be stopped by these buggers! With this giant code in place now you can cruise through walls and skip large sections of levels no problems! It even saved me from Elvira or whatever her name is! But I wasn’t so lucky with the first levels boss battle. This jerk got me through the wall even though I was hiding! I think I need to write an angry letter to Konami or something as this boss and his hit boxes are pretty brutal…but I guess I did kind of deserve it for trying to use codes on their games, so they win this round.

So for the last code we are going to take a look at I thought I would combine infinite energy and the stage select code, plus the 2 line game genie code ESULTKOZ + TOULYKAP. Now we are apparently all set to literally 1 hit kill the final boss of the game without any risk to our own personal safety! And well, in short, I was mislead. The bugger still took 3 hits to take down! Admittedly it is a pretty awesome end boss where he shoots lazers at you whilst you have to jump on storm trooper heads to get to him, but after I beat him it just sent me back to the start of the game! What a rip off! Now all we are left with is our own personal amusement of this duck’s expression whilst he flys around.
Anyway in closing this is actually a pretty fun game! It has tight controls generally, fun game play mechanics, a pretty sweet sound track and a few of our old Tiny Toon chums helping us out along the way. If you are looking for a bit of nostalgic fun with a bit of 1 hit death frustration than Tiny Toon Adventures on the NES is worth a play! There are a few other lives and time related codes and such for the game but there isn’t a whole heap to say about them so I left it at this!
So if you enjoyed hacking this NES classic with me then make sure you smash that like button, subscribe to Mario Mayhem if you are new, leave a comment down below letting us all know your thoughts and why not check out some of my other videos? You may just enjoy them too! And that’s it for today my friends, I’ll catch you soon!
