Originally released in Japan on April 27, 1992, Kirby’s Dream Land was just about an instant success! Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy, it is actually the debut game for our little pink puff. However, you might have noticed that on the game art/box art Kirby is actually shown as white! This is because the developers at the time didn’t actually know what color to make him.
In fact, when it came to colorizing Kirby there was a debate between Masahiro Sakurai and Shigeru Miyamoto as to whether he should be pink or yellow, respectively. Eventually of course he was deemed to be a pink character but still to this day if there is a second player of Kirby, such as in Smash bros, he is usually yellow by default, so Miyamoto’s influence wasn’t lost.
Anyway, back to the classic Game Boy game and it’s sprites! Of course the color palette of the Game Boy was a bit limited but this doesn’t make the game any less charming. So, with that being said, on wards with the Kirby’s Dream Land Sprites!
