Hello friends it’s Tim here again from Super Mayhem Awhooo, and today we are going to celebrate a certain recent holiday with some sweet video game action.
That’s right, it’s Easter time and we all know what that means! Easter Eggs! And the death of Jesus Christ or something but more importantly Easter eggs! That once a year Chocolatey goodness in the form of eggs or bunnies or even the Easter bilby if you are from Australia that we all wait for!
Jump to the bottom to view this article in video form!
Well today we won’t be focusing so much on the chocolate side, but rather the hidden gems in video games that are known as Easter Eggs! You know those hidden images, inside jokes or some form of secret that is usually off the beaten track in video games that just make you say “heh, look at that”.
They have supposedly been around since 1979 where an Atari 2600 game known as Adventure had one hiding! The creator Warren Robinett was a bit annoyed at Atari for not crediting it’s staff at the time and made a secret room that when a dot was moved into it showed the message “Created by Warren Robinett”. So that’s a bit of history for you!
Anyway join with me if you will in smashing that thumbs up button and of course subscribing and ringing the bell for notifications if you are new as we explore some truly epic Easter Eggs in video games! Lets’a Go!
Goat Simulator – Mooing Man
Let’s start off with a fun one shall we? Goat Simulator is one of those video games that is just such a silly concept that it became a very popular game. I mean you are simulating a goat! What is weirder than that? Leave a comment below if you have a weirder video game concept. Anyway, during the game’s DLC called “PayDay”, headbutt a particular NPC that is in the cow ranch and he will chase you around moo-ing like a cow! It’s no regular Moo though, this is the proper high quality English Moo you would expect from the royal family if they were to moo! This bugger doesn’t keep to his cow’s though, he follows you around the entire map, wherever you go!
Super Mario Galaxy 2 – The Watchers
If you are a fan of this channel and/or Super Mario in general than you may already know about this hidden Easter Egg!
This one is also a little bit creepy and probably spooked a number of young children that played that game. In the Shiverburn Galaxy things are little be tougher thanks to lava pits and black holes ready to eat Mario if he gets to close but that’s not all there is. On the cliffs in the background there are strange figures watching you… silhouettes with distended arms and huge eyes just staring at you. It’s a little unsettling and as a bonus the code in the level names them as “HellValleySkyTree”, so I guess whatever this is, is actually a tree? That is one spooky tree.
This model also makes an appearance in the Grandmaster Galaxy as this level reuses the Shiverburn Galaxy’s background.
Doom 2 – Co Creator shoot out
Banking on the success of Doom 1 it’s only natural to put out a sequel, Doom 2! The quintessential first person shooter is not only fun, it also hides a pretty neat Easter Egg in it! It’s not that easy to discover, in fact, one must shoot the final boss in the face and then walk through the dead monster. Hiding on the other side of this carnage is a picture of the games co-creator, John Romero, with his head sitting on a stick that you can shoot! It makes ghastly noises when you pop him one too! On top of this craziness there is a soundtrack that plays backwards of the co-creator himself saying “To win the game you must kill me, John Romero!”. Pretty whacky but it shows the creators had a good time making the game at least!
The Eggs in Zelda Breath of the Wild – Houdini Fontmeister
The next few clumps of Easter Eggs are all about the latest in the Legend of Zelda series, Breath of the wild, and brought to you by my good friend Houdini Fontmeister! So if you like the following bits of info coming out of mouth than do make sure you check out his channel via the link in the description!
In the Latest entry in The Zelda Series, “Breath of the Wild” there are several Easter eggs for us to uncover. For Example the Magnesis trial on The Great Plateau. The shrine is not only where you get the Magnesis Rune and a Spirit orb but if you pay close enough attention to the name you will see it is an Anagram. Oman Au is an Anagram of Aonuma The Series Producer Eiji Aonuma.
The Iconic Green Tunic can be unlocked in the game by Completing all 120 Shrines and visiting the Forgotten Temple. This is a nice treat to long time fans of the series and Link looks quite nice in it.
Spectacle Rock from the Original Zelda can be found in the Southwest. It houses the Wasteland tower and is the final resting place of the Divine Beast.
And finally for Breath of The Wild we have the most amazing Egg in the game. Along your travels you may run into a Man names Botrick who has a Strong Striking resemblance to Nintendo’s Former President Satoru Iwata and is a small Tribute to him as he passed away in 2015 to Cholangiocarcinoma or complications of a tumor in Iwata’s bile duct.
Botrick will reference The Lord of the Mountain which you can find at Satori Mountain (Obviously named after the Late Iwata).
Some nights you may find a Mysterious glowing Green Light coming from Satori Mountain. If you travel to this light then you will find a beautiful gathering near a pond. Here you will find the Lord of the Mountain and if you take a picture of him you get this description,
“This noble creature watches over all animals that make their homes in the forest. Legends say this holy creature is a reincarnation of a sage that died on the lands it now protects. It has an acute awareness of its surroundings, so it seldom appears before people. It’s sometimes known by its other name, Satori.”
You cannot Register the mythical creature however due to fear of being cursed by it.
It is a very Beautiful Tribute to Satoru Iwata.
Hitman: Blood Money – Magic Coin
So it may not surprise you to hear a Hitman Easter Egg in this list as this series is known for having a few in jokes and hidden bits, but this particular one is pretty classic. During the mission “Til death do us part” it is your job as Agent 47 to take down the groom at his own wedding. However if you go past the dancing guests to the left there is a little coin hiding in a puddle of water. If you shoot this coin a whole bunch of dudes in their boxer shorts will run up to you and start clapping for you for some reason! No one knows why this is in the game but you can blow them up too, if you want to.
Visage – Dancing Zombie Girl
Here we have a bit of a creepy one to keep the ball rolling a little bit further, but it’s also pretty hilarious once you get past the spookiness of the game known as Visage. First off, this is a game I would never play, I don’t own enough pants and refuse to use a diaper at this stage in my life. Anyway, once you have completed the game, go to the sink where you will find a key to a safe. Sounds innocent enough so far. Once you open the safe it will show you a piece of paper with the text saying “Room 302” with a few question marks. Make your way to this eerie room and stand in the door way. Gradually lights will start to go out and then you will be met with one disco dancing ghost/zombie girl. It’s slightly terrifying but also a classic Easter Egg!
Saints Row 2 – Bunny Easter Egg
It seems fitting to end this list with an Easter Egg featuring a bunny. That’s right, in Saints Row 2 there is, for some unknown reason, a giant purple bunny that comes out of the ocean. Is it the Easter Bunny coming to bring us all gifts of wonder? I’ll let you be the judge of that one. To find this purple bugger you have to make it to this little hidden island that is offshore near the ever-rolling mists. Then all you have to do is hang around in your boat, swim around or even use your jet ski near the coast until this bizarre bunny makes his appearance! Don’t worry, he is harmless as far as I have heard but I do somehow suspect this bunny was made as some kind of Easter Egg correlation to the Bunny, as you saw in the intro of this video.
Anyway that’s it for today friends, I really hope you had an awesome Easter! Don’t forget to smash that like button like you are attacking a chocolate bunny, subscribe with notifications on if you are new and prepare for the second outro that I swear I’ll re-film some day!
